Interdisciplinary research at the VRCIM Laboratory focuses on the use of visualization, virtual reality, and internet-based technologies to improve product development processes and training. The team is headed by Dr. Sankar Jayaram and Dr. Uma Jayaram, both recognized internationally for their expertise in their field. Dr. Sankar Jayaram received his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. and has had over 20 years of academic and industry experience in CAD, virtual reality for engineering, and collaborative engineering. Dr. Uma Jayaram received her Ph.D. from Virginia Tech and has had over 15 years of academic and industry experience in the creation and application of engineering tools for design and manufacturing. As computing technology and design/manufacturing strategies evolve significantly every year, they have influenced some of these advances and in addition have stayed focused on the future applications of these technological breakthroughs and the implications on engineering, training, communication, and service.
