Uniqueness & Innovation: Our philosophy first emphasizes the creation of an integrated collaborative environment with virtual prototyping capabilities and then concentrates on the integration of CAE tools. The design environment is abstracted into three elements: humans, evaluation models, and environment.

Open Architecture for Virtual Prototyping Tools 

The purpose of this project was to design, create and implement a framework to support the integration of multiple software systems used in the virtual prototyping of mechanical components. The framework is the central unit with which all the software applications interact.


Architectures for Collaborative Virtual Prototyping

The purpose of this project was to research a number of distinct approaches for creating a collaborative, distributed architecture for virtual prototyping. The architectural philosophies discussed include: Product Development Approach, CAE Tool Integration Approach, User-Session Approahc, Functional Approach, and Black-Box Approach.


VDM Framework for Collaborative Engineering

VDM is a Virtual Design and Manufacture framework for collaborative engineering. The aim was to integrate dissimilar systems which have different functionalities and be able to share data and functionality. There was a multi-system, multi-platform, multi-user, multi-site, and multi-level integration with synchronous and asynchronous collaboration. The philosophy was based on object oriented architecture, distributed objects using CORBA technology, distributed storage of data where possible, intelligent, centralized server objects, and minimal real-time shared data. This system was then tested between Mt. Vernon, Denton and Yarrow-Bay with supplier/vendor/customer participation.
